Fillers Q & A
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are substances that Dr. Lee injects into your skin to add volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The Juvéderm fillers offered at her office contain hyaluronic acid, a compound your skin naturally produces to add heft and hydration to your skin.
As you get older, your production of hyaluronic acid wanes. You also start to lose the immediate fat layer that lies just below the surface of your skin. These changes make lines and wrinkles more evident and can lead to volume loss in your cheeks and lips. As a result, you look a bit more hollowed and creased. Injections of Juvéderm restore lost hyaluronic acid to fill in wrinkles and plump the features that have lost volume.
What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are effective in a number of facial areas that show your age. Juvéderm has a variety of formulas that are effective for:
- Smile lines
- Smoker’s lines
- Wrinkles around the eyes
- Marionette lines
- Hollowed cheeks
- Thinning lips
Dr. Lee provides expert application of Juvéderm, so you get results that look naturally more youthful and not like you’ve had work done.
Do dermal fillers require downtime?
You don’t need to schedule any downtime following dermal filler treatments with Juvéderm. Many people receive treatment on their lunch hour and go back to work afterward. Results of the fillers are evident right away.
Do dermal filler treatments hurt?
You’ll feel a pinch from the needles used to administer the injections, but most people tolerate dermal filler treatments quite well. Some formulas of Juvéderm contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, which eases the sensation. If you’re concerned about discomfort, talk to Dr. Lee about using ice or additional topical numbing agents prior to your injections.
How long do the effects of dermal fillers last?
Juvéderm reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles and fills in hollow contours for six to 18 months. Exactly how long the effects last depend on the formula used, the area treated, and your personal reaction to the products. Dr. Lee can help you understand the results you can expect from dermal filler treatment.
You can receive additional injections of dermal fillers once the effects start to wane. Dr. Lee can put you on a treatment schedule so you maintain your youthful look.
